Trains are a classic hobby, that were made popular long before gaming or collecting the latest gadgets became cool. Whether they’re life-size or miniature, people of all ages enjoy trains. Inspired by a nostalgic trip to a railway model shop, Frederik Braun presented his twin brother Gerrit with the idea of building the largest model railway in the world. The two partnered up and made that idea a reality. The world’s largest model railway and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany, is located next to the Elbe in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt. The model area of the Miniatur Wunderland reaches over 12,000 square feet and ranges from Scandinavia to the USA, from the coast to the high mountains. The Miniatur Wunderland has been constantly growing since the year 2001, and after a final construction phase in 2015, the model area is expected to double in size.
The Miniatur Wonderland is filled with breathtaking landscapes and true-to-life attractions that are definitely worth a look.
