What Not to Do in New York City

Since our readers were pleased with the list of 10 Things Not to Do in Paris, we just have to share this Big Apple version. This time brought to us by the Matador Network, reading What Not to Do in New York City will ensure that you won’t be sold the Brooklyn Bridge or get sucked into visiting the Naked Cowboy.

Visit MOMA or the Met

With $20 entrance fees and a setting so large you’ll never feel like you’re “done” with them, skip these museums and head over to MOCA, MOCADA, El Museo del Barrio, or The Jewish Museum.

Indulge at Serendipity or Magnolia

If you want to spend an hour in line at a ‘sweeterie’ that became famous thanks to movies, then go right ahead. Otherwise, Matador suggests keeping your eye out for the Van Leeuwen ice cream truck to get your hands on some Wafel and Dinges. Not sure what they are, but they sound better than a Sex & the City cupcake, no?

See a show at Radio City, Madison Square Garden or Broadway

Lesser know venues will provide a more realistic NYC culture experience. BAM (the Brooklyn Academy of Music), Bargemusic, the Manhattan Theatre Club, and The Chocolate Factory are a few suggestions.

Visit the Statue of Liberty

Like the Eiffel Tower, the view from afar offers much better insight to her majestic beauty. Instead, experience Ellis Island and the African Burial Ground. As the nation’s “premier federal immigration station,” it’s perfect for anyone with an interest in American History.
