Answers from Lonely Planet has now been listed among 500 best sites in the world.
Lonely Planet took help of all it´s authors and experts to make “the ultimate list” of which sites are a must to visit once in a lifetime.
The results are showed in a thick photo book coming out in the fall, writes CNN. The first prize was taken by the beautiful temple area in Cambodian Angkor.
The second place is taken by the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and on the third place came Machu Picchu in Peru.
Many of the sites on this list are UNESCO world heritage sites and extremely popular with travellers. Two destinations that were positioned among the top twenty came as a surprise. It was Medina of Fez in Morocco, on the eleventh place, and Tasmanian Museum for new and old art on the 20th place. Here is the top-ten of 500 best travel sites in the world.
1. Angkor Wat, Cambodia
One of the world’s largest temple areas dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu.
2. Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Off the east coast of Australia is the world’s largest coral reef with thousands of species of fish.
3. Macchu Pichu, Peru
It ranks so high due not only the dramatic landscape in the Andes, but also because of the mystery of this place.
4. Great Wall, China
Infinite and resistant.
5. Taj Mahal in Agra, India
Architectural perfection down to the smallest mosaic .
6. Grand Canyon, USA
A gigantic natural masterpiece.
7. Colosseum, Italy
Whoever steps into this great amphitheatre can still feel the Roman raw, ruthless spirit of power.
8. Iguazu Falls, the border between Argentina and Brazil
Waterfalls are so enormous that the ferries look like matchsticks when you see them from walking the roads up there on the edge.
9. Alhambra, Spain
This Palace in Granada is probably the finest example of Islamic art in the world.
