The Opposite House – Beijing

In the ancient city of Beijing lies an undeniably modern hotel. The Opposite House, designed by Japanese architect Kango Kama, has an emerald green glass exterior that stands out even among the city’s opulent palaces, temples and huge stone walls.

A step inside the spacious, open lobby reveals exhibits such as a Mao jacket and a qi pao dress – created from broken pieces of Chinese porcelain. More gallery than check-in area, it continues with two flat reflecting pools that sit beneath a ceiling draped with wire mesh curtains.

In keeping with the hotel’s exterior, the 99 guest suites and rooms blend modernity with tradition. They have a zen, minimalist open-plan and are outfitted with brushed oak floors, interesting paneling, and neutral bed linens.
