Amangiri Hotel
Designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape, one of the largest American national parks, the Amangiri hotel facility (part of the Aman Resorts chain) is in full proportion to the size of the surrounding nature, consisting of the troughs of Canyon Point and the stratified rocks leading to the Grand Staircase. Amangiri, or peaceful mountain’, is situated on 600 acres in Southern Utah, close to the border with Arizona. Essentially, it’s in the middle of nowhere and in touch with nature alone. The project developers believed that the Southwest desert already had an identity ascribable to minimalism, to a purist essence. So architecturally, the resort has been designed to blend into the landscape with natural hues, materials and textures a feature of the design. The structures are commanding and in proportion with the scale of the natural surroundings, yet provide an intimate setting from which to view and appreciate the landscape.
