11 Outrageously Expensive Eats

If you’re not hungry yet, you might be a robot. We travel the world in search of adventure, new cultures and sometimes – a break from reality. Most travelers also enjoying trying out some of the best local eats…until their price tags bring you right back to the real world. We’ve all been ticked off by that overpriced meal at a tourist trap, or $9 beer at a stadium event, but think about a sundae that costs about as much your car. MSNBC recently put together a list of 11 Expensive Eats from around the globe. Hungry? Angry? Don’t worry, you will be.

The 12-inch Luxury Pizza at Nino’s Bellissima in New York City costs $1,000, or to put it into even more absurd terms –  $125 a slice. The restaurant needs 24 hours’ notice to create the pie that’s topped with six types of caviar, lobster, creme fraiche and chives.

This may not look like much, but this is THE Chocolate Variation, and it goes for $640. The dessert that’s served at Mezzaluna in Thailand includes champagne sorbet made from Cristal, and a slice of chocolate cake with edible gold and Perigord truffle. Fancy.

This pricey hunk of meat (also pictured above)is the Richard Nouveau burger from the Wall Street Burger Shoppe in New York City. For $174, you’ll be biting into gold flakes, black truffles, seared foie gras and aged Gruyere cheese, all atop 10 ounces of Kobe beef.

What do you get when you set out to create what will hold the Guinness world record for most expensive dessert? A $25,000 Frozen Haute Chocolate. The sundae includes a blend of 28 cocoas, is infused with five grams of edible23-karat gold and served in a goblet lined with edible gold. Not to worry, at this price customer walk away with an 18-karat gold and diamond bracelet and the gold and a diamond-crusted spoon and goblet set. Oh, right, like that makes it totally worth it.
