The Don’t Bother Guide: 101 Places Not to See Before You Die

Everyone is always telling you where “ya gotta go” when visiting new cities and traveling about. Catherine Price, author of 101 Places Not to See Before You Die, wants to give you a heads up on places to avoid. From germ-y gum walls to a museum dedicated to tap water, she wants to make sure you don’t get sucked into checking out some of the lamest attractions around. NPR recently interviewed Price and she talked about some of the mustn’t see places.

The Blarney Stone – Ireland

Winchester Mystery House – California

Legend has it, this sprawling, 160-room mansion — a maze of dozens of hallways, chimneys and stairways leading nowhere, is haunted by the souls of people killed by Winchester guns. Price explains,”The truth is that we don’t know for sure if that story is true. There’s no furniture in the house, it’s just … basically empty rooms.” [image – Front Door]

Anatomy Museum – Italy

With its dried-out body parts and fingers preserved in formaldehyde, the museum is not something Price felt she really “need to do” on a hot Turin afternoon. But the creepiest part is that the museum is lorded over by the skeleton of its founder. [image – Nature.com]
