Hotel on Wheels

RV not in your budget? Check into the Rotel (rolling + hotel) for a night on wheels. This tour bus is owned by a German tour company and features a six-foot-long bed for each of its passengers, though each bunk is only about 3 feet wide by 3 feet high. It’s sort of like a capsule hotel on wheels, except that on the Rotel you get to wake up in Africa.

The company has been hosting bus-bed tours of Europe, Asia, and Africa since 1959, and while they cater almost exclusively to German tourists, we can’t help but hope something like this takes off here in the states. There is a bathroom on the bus, but it lacks a shower or bathing facility. The bus does make frequent stops at facilities with showers throughout the journey.
