Carchitecture: Das Auto Restaurant

We here in the United States hold a special place in our pop culture loving heats for the VW Beetle. What’s not to love about the little bug? Over in Europe, the birthplace of VW, they pay homage to the car with something a little cooler than the “punch buggy green; no backsies game. While it’s been around for several years now, this VW Beetle-inspired restaurant is just making its way around the blogsphere. After the similarly designed, Car Home, Markus Voglreiter and his team began construction on THE CAR, DAS AUTO, a restaurant and bar located in Obertrum, an area north of Salzberg, Austria. The Car Restaurant seats 300 and has room for 350 on the outside terraces. Opened in 2007, the visually interesting establishment serves fine food and drink and can be used for special events and parties as well.
